It's amazing how stupid people are. Actually, I shouldn't say that. It's amazing how unquestioning people are. And I don't mean the usual football-watching, beer-swillers who don't care to keep up-to-date. I'm talking about authority figures...cops, soldiers, politicians, academic administrators, etc. I'm not trying to stereotype here, but I guess it's going to be difficult not to...
Anyone who has a difference of opinion, who wants to express it is immediately attacked. Look at what's going on in Australia right now. Oh sure, if you watch the corporate media, you're going to see reports of "hoodlums" who are out to destroy things. But let's step back for a minute.
If these people just want to break shit, they have opportunities to do this any time. Why go through this, when they know they're going to get their asses kicked (then arrested, then probably kicked again)? Let's say the corporations are right and these people just want to break shit...what about the messages they're trying to express? The reporters are there...they
decide what to report...the editors
decide what stays in the stories.
Let's expand this. Everyone who protests...what are people afraid of? Words? Ideas? When corporate newspapers mess with letters to the editor and op eds from people who go against the status quo...what are they afraid of? Don't you think they'd make
more money by heated, intelligent debate?
What are police and politicians afraid of? Seriously. I don't care how many people are there...do you really think the protesters in Australia right now are going to storm the meetings and tear the leaders limb-from-limb? (hmmmmmmmmm....)
Probably not.
When I see this shit I laugh a little, shake my head and wonder how much beer I have at home.
Oh...and skip the corporations...go to
Indymedia.com...especially the Australian pages. This is from people who are there and have no corporate agenda.
