SMC KALVI YATHIRAI 2000

       Sri Murugan Centre (SMC) was founded by concerned Indians to help Indian children succeed in life. The route adopted by SMC is Education.

     From its modest origins in 1982 with 42 volunteers comprising Indian students and lecturers of the Universiti of Malaya it has been blessed to become an effective and energentic vehicle of social reform taking care of about 20,000 students at 250 centres throughout the country. Requests for SMC centres are increasing daily with calls from remote estates as well as urban cities. SMC has the manpower and programs to touch every Indian family ; our constraints are finance.

     The Kalvi Yathirai is an ideal supplement, complement and strengthening force to our educational programs. Your child's success in education springs from 2 sources : accurate academic traning and the inner desire to want to succeed : the secular and the spiritual.

BORN W ITH DISCIPLINE

      Academic guidance is provided at our SMC centres. We recognize that it is the child's will and spirit to succeed that generates energy to persevere, surmount obstacles and study with concentration and onsistency. We create this spirit through motivation sessions. The aim of motivation is to instill discipline. The ultimate is to awaken discipline from within the child.

      Every child is born to succeed and every child is born with discipline. The duty of SMC is to revive that discipline. After thousands of motivational talks, interviews, discussions and countless hours of research the most glaring TRUTH was revealed to us. The singular path of unleash the energy of galactic dimensions lying dormant inside the child is though FAITH in RELIGION.

A LEGACY 10 000 YEARS OLD

      The Kalvi Yathirai is a pilgrimage to resurrect a legacy of our 10 , 000 year old tradition, dating from the Vedic Times, that a person who practice control over mind and body and sacrifices immediate gratification of the senses for long-term success and happiness will achieve whatever he conceives in his mind. Your child who follows Kalvi Yathirai will never be abandoned : he will be BLESSED and RECEIVE whatever you wish for your child.

      The response to Kalvi Yathirai in 1995 , 1996 , 1997 and 1999 has been overwhelming. Every year more than 200 , 000 parents and children have undertaken the pilgrimage as a family with a single purpose in mind : the success of the child in Education. Pilgrimages have been undertaken since the beginning of human civilization for a mixed variety of reasons but a journey of more than  200 , 000 to Lord Muruga purely for Education is unprecedented here , or , in any part of the world at any time in history. The Hindus in Malaysia have paved a new course for those seeking to harness the restless mind and direct the energy to success in Education.

HELP US TO HELP OTHERS

      The rationale for the Kalvi Yathirai is more detailed than the explanation I have given in a few words here. It is the result of 17 years of soul-searching to find a way to help the Indian child. The disadvantaged Indian child is our conscience but some kindness, encouragement , guidance and patronage will change his world. Some of you may not have the time to guide these children. You could, in such a situation, help by  financially supporting the volunteers who have come forward by the hundreds over the years to sacrifice their time for the progress of the community so that the Indian in Malaysia will walk tall and shoulder to shoulder with the other communities.

      THE FIRST YATHIRAI OF THIS MILLENIUM  will have a larger gathering than Yathirai ' 99. SMC has received calls from all over the country. About 250 , 000 pilgrims will sit in prayer and recite Siva Puranam at 9.01 a.m. on August 6 , 2000 at the footsteps of Lord Muruga in Batu Caves.

             Your presence will honour us and your financial support will encourage us to continue working for the child. Help us to help others. The Kalvi Yathirai will lead to Kalvi Thyagam for four months and ultimately Kalvi Mukthi in the Exam Hall.
