LEAGUE RULES
Great White North Fantasy Hockey is a head to head style league. The league is maintained here and runs using Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey. At the end of each season each team can keep (protect) a player on their existing roster in each position. (C, RW, LW, D, G)
Pre-Draft Trades - Once all managers have joined the Yahoo! League I will update the draft order. The order is the reverse order of how teams finished the regular season the previous year. See below for further info on draft order.
You may make pre-draft trades after all teams have joined the Yahoo! League and I have posted the draft order on this web site. You may trade any keeper player for another teams keeper player, draft choice, or combination. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT EACH TEAM NEEDS TO MAINTAIN THE SAME NUMBER OF PLAYERS AT THE END OF THE TRADE!
Here is an example of a trade that CANNOT be done. Team A wants to trade their keeper player, Joe Sakic, to Team B for their 3rd and 5th round picks in the draft. This cannot be done because Team B would be giving up two spots on their roster and only getting one player in return. In order for the trade to go through Team A would have to either offer another keeper player or one of their draft picks in addition to Joe Sakic to make the trade balanced.
Where can you contact fellow managers to see if you can work out a deal? Just go to our Message Board web site and pop a question.
*** Note that all pre-draft trades will not have to be approved by a majority of the league's managers like they do during the regular season. I just need an email from both teams stating they have made the trade. I will update the web site with the changes in roster and draft order. I will hold the right to veto a pre-draft trade, but only if it is obvious that two managers are collaborating to give one team a distinct advantage. I don't believe I would ever have to do this though.
DRAFT ORDER RULES - At the end of each season (not including playoffs) the team that finishes last will be initially placed first in the draft order. In other words the draft is in reverse order of how teams finished the regular season last year. If a manager leaves the league, their players get placed back into the player pool and every team that was below them in the draft order gets bumped up a spot. I'll record this on the web site.
NEW MANAGERS entering the league will automatically be placed first in each round of the draft. If there is more than one new manager I will put their names in a hat to see who goes first. There will also be 5 extra rounds at the end of the draft strictly for new managers since they do not have any keeper players. You can trade with new managers so it is possible an established manager could draft in these rounds.
Who Should I Draft - Each night you can play 3 Centers, 3 Right Wings, 3 Left Wings, 6 Defenseman, and 2 Goalies. Each week you'll get two points for winning a category. Categories are Goals, Assists, +/-, PP points, Short Handed Points, Penalty Minutes (more the better), Shots on Goal, Face Offs Won, Goalie Wins, Goalie Goals Against Avg., Goalie Saves, and Shut Outs.
So its important for you to draft players that play on the power play as well as players that play on the penalty kill. You want a couple of bad boys that will earn you some penalty minutes. Goalie stats make up almost 30% of the categories so you want a good goalie or two or three. Finally you want to try to get players on teams that will win as there is a category for +/-.
Each team will have 21 players. 19 roster spots are active and 2 spots for bench players.
REGULAR SEASON RULES - The rules set forth by Yahoo! Fantasy Sports for Head to Head Leagues will be used. Click here for a description of our league settings and Click Here for info that will explain any questions you might have. Please email me at [email protected] with any questions.
