FESTIVALS:
JAZZ FESTIVAL (held in October)

This festival is open to students of voice, piano and other instruments.  Entrants perform music of the American Jazz genre in a non-competitive setting.  Jazz Festival is open to students of all ages and levels.

SPRINGFIELD FESTIVAL (held in March)

This festival is open to students of voice, piano and other instruments according to the NFMC Festival Bulletin.  Students can enter in a variety of categories such as solo piano, vocal art song and piano duet.  Students perform two memorized pieces and receive points towards Gold Cups.

SONATINA/SONATA FESTIVAL (held in May)

This annual even introduces students to the sonatina/sonata form and helps prepare them for performace experiences.  Students perform a sonatina or sonata muvement and are evaluated in a non-competative setting.  Trophies and certificates are awareded to participants who meet all requirements.

COMPETITIONS:
COMPOSER COMPETITION (held in April)

This event is held annually and features the works of a different composer, historical period or music style each year.  Each participant plays the required piece and a choice piece from memory.  Monotary awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.  Each 1st place winner is recognized at the May meeting and performs in a special honors recital.


SCHOLARSHIPS:
LEESTMA SCHOLARSHIP (application due in March 2008)

The Alice Leestma Memorial Scholarhip, established in memory of our first President, is given annually based on financial need and consideration of the student's musical accomplishments.  The scholarship is intended to fostor and encourage young musicians.  It is awarded to vocal or instrumental students from the first to the eleventh grade whose teachers are members of SMC.  Winners are determined by application only. 

PPA SCHOLARSHIP (application due in March 2008)

The Past Presidents Assembly ("PPA") scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending college and majoring in music, and whose teacher is a member of the Springfield Music Club.  The scholarship is a cash award to one or more winners, determined by a decision of the Past Presidents Assembly and based on information contained in the requirements.

STUDENT RECITALS(application due October 6, 2007,  February 9, May 18)

These recitals are held three (3) times per year.  These recitals are unjudged and are non-competitive to provide equal opportunity to students of all ages and levels.
