For Winter....
This is a photo of the angel figure I bought last October from a Christmas shop in Edinburough. As soon as I saw it I knew I just had to get it. It reminds me so much of Winter because of the baby the angel is holding. You can't see in the photo but she does have wings making her an angel.

The little tag that it came with said "Hold close that which we hold dear". I find this ironic because I
can't hold him close, but the idea is comforting.

This photo was taken in my garden. I have sketched this figure many times as I see the baby as the image of mine. I like that the faces are blank and featureless because it is just how I experienced my child.
This painting is called Night with Her Train of Stars and Her Great Gift of Sleep and is by Edward Robert Hughes (1912). It is oil on canvas and can be found in Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, England. My parents gave me a card for Christmas that has a copy of this painting on. This was last Christmas just 20 days after Winter's due date. My parents have never known about him and so could nevr have known how much this painting would mean to me. But my mum also loves it.

The meaning can be found just in the title but is so beautifully expressed in the painting. There is this fantastic angel who is the night and she is followed by all these cherubs who are stars. I found comfort in my baby being a star and then here is a painting of lots of angel babies as stars! Then there is her great gift of sleep, the tiniest baby that she cradles in her arms.

This painting is beautiful and extreamly well done. Someday I hope to see the original in Birmingham and also I want to get a print of it for my room. How could this painting not remind me of my child???
