When my son had a few words to say in his vocabulary I started a routine in which before he goes to sleep he had to repeat after me his ABC's From numbers 1-10 and his evening prayer. I used to think teaching your child ABC's normally would cause slow development when it comes to learning actual words. But to my surprise my child has learnt A-F and has also learnt certain words from the educational shows on TV. He can also name each body part such as ear, nose, eye, leg, ankle etc, and he can count from 1-10 without assistance. Sorry to tell you but bad words and swear words have an attraction like you wouldn't believe. If your child is using them it's only because they heard it from somewhere else. Most children don't know what the words mean but the reason they find themselves saying them is because when they are heard the words usually have emphasis on it. Try to explain to them why you don't use those words. *Though talking to your baby in baby talk is cute and has them smiling, it can slow their development. Speaking to them properly from the start will allow them to listen to you better when they get older. *Another don't do while teaching your child to talk is do not teach your child the sounds that things make like the cow goes moo, because it could confuse your child and your child wouldn't know whether it's a cow or a moo. Teach your child what the object or creature is first, and when that is stuck to them, then teach them the sounds they make.
*Reading them books at night before they go to bed can be beneficial, but for my son to be happy I have to read every book he finds and is still unhappy which is my own fault as I never limited him to just one book at the start. He loves to read which can only be a good thing. So remember read only one book at the start, if you wish to, and not the whole collection like I did. If you want to read to your child more, well the more the better. *Sometimes your baby will not concerntrate on the book, they will be looking at you as you read it. But don't think that they are not paying attention or not wanting to read, they are just watching the way you say words and concerntrating on how your mouth is moving so if this happens to you, your baby is trying to learn how to talk by watching you. Kids learn from us a lot. *When you are doing things and your baby is watching, for example making a cup of tea. Explain to your child what you are doing. 'I'm going to pull out a cup' show your child you are pulling out the cup. 'I'm going to fill the kettle up', show them your filling the kettle etc. |
