Smithcraft Apprentice Guide

Promotions and Ranks

Apprentice Promotion Requirements

** If you don't wish to be promoted at some point, please let the craft admin know ASAP. Promotions are usually a surprise, but we don't want to give a promotion to someone who doesn't want it. **

The first and foremost consideration for promotion is active contribution to the craft. In other words, the more active you are, the faster you will rise through the rank structure. Activity does not necessarily mean just being online, however. It means taking advantage of roleplay opportunities when you get the chance, and more importantly, creating new opportunities for yourself and others.

There are many ways to contribute; in fact, the only thing to limit you is your imagination. To gain a basic promotion, you are required to complete at least one task per apprentice rank level. If you choose to complete additional tasks, you will be eligible for a promotion with Honors, which merits some extra rewards.

The following is a list of suggestions for ways you can be an active part of the hall:

Breakdown of the Ranks

Junior Apprentice:
ICly, a Jr. Apprentice in the SmithCraft is here to learn the basic skills of smithing. A typical day will be spent in instruction and doing chores.

OOCly, this rank is meant to serve as an orientation period. All you need to do to be promoted is to simply be active and make sure the admin know it. We will not promote any crafters who obtain their knot and immediately idle out, waiting for someone to notice them.

Full Apprentice:
ICly, a Full Apprentice continues learning the skills and techniques of the craft, and the classes will be slightly more advanced.

OOCly, a Full Apprentice is someone who has shown initiative and the willingness to be an active part of the craft. To be promoted to the senior level, you need to show us that you are going to stay active, which generally means contributing in at least one way. Try to do something you havent done before, as the admin favor a well-rounded education. Again, make sure the admin are up to date on your progress.

Senior Apprentice:
ICly, once an apprentice learns the basics of being a Smith (and it can take turns), they will graduate to Senior Apprentice. Sr. Apprentice is meant to ease the transition of life in the hall to life out of the hall, and to increase the skills necessary for advancement. A Sr. Apprentice has a little more flexibility. They will still have chores, but less time will be spent doing them, and more time will be devoted to the study of the craft. A Senior Apprentice may also be posted out of the hall for a short period of time.

OOCly, the Senior Apprentice rank is the last apprentice level and the last step before a Smith reaches Journeyrank. These are the people who have remained dedicated to the craft and have shown that they plan to continue to do so. The best thing to do at this level is to talk to the Apprentice Master about what you can do to earn a promotion.
