These sites offer many resources for the developer including tutorials and tons of inspiration. Just be very sure if using any source found on the web on any product that you have either purchased distribution rights or rights have been given. Many freebies are free for personal use only and not for resale. Read all TOS information thoroughly. When perusing you might be surprised at what products will look veeeeery familiar. Be forewarned you might be disappointed to learn what you thought were made developer products actually came from someone else.

Recomended 3D Max reading

3DS MAX Visual Quickstart This book is the most responsible for me learning 3D Max. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! It is written for 6 but works fine for what we use in 7. It is now spine broken in, dog eared, with a rainbow of post-its hanging out of it but never leaves my computers side. This book goes by features vs doing the standard involved tutorials that do not pertain to IMVU needs.

3D Max 7 Bible Another great book but also focuses on many things we do not need. If you need tutorial driven learning this is a great choice.
