Records that have been found for Johann Leonard gives us the following picture:
He lived in Bernard Twp., Somerset Co., NJ until 1778 or 1779.
He was among the signers of a petition to King George III for a charter for Lutheran churches from the townships of Bedminster, Bridgewater and Bernard.
He was an active member of the Lutheran church and mentioned several times in the diary of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the Lutheran paster sent from Europe to restore order within the Lutheran Churches in the colonies.
Muhlenberg records in his diary the following:
June 25, 1759, "From there I visited another deacon, Leonhard Streit"
Sep 9, 1759, "Baptized a child, Leonard Streit's little son, named Wilhelm".
May 13, 1767, "St. Paul's and congregation in Bedminster, Somerset Co., East N. J. Leonhard Strait designated vestryman or Elder along with others.
Aug 24, 1782, "Leonhard Streit arrived unexpectedly from his residence 130 miles
in Md. not having seen his son (Christian) since he was in Charleston.
The 63 year old father was afflicted with severe hernia."
It is believed he moved to Hagarstown, MD about 1778 or 1779 to be near his son Leonard.
Leonard's will was dated March 27, 1780 and "exhibited, entered and received" in Washington County, MD on Oct 8, 1782.
From Muhlenberg's diary we know that he was alive the 24th of August 1782, hence his death ocurred between the 24th of August and the 8th of October of 1782 .

"In the name of God I John Streight Senr of the township of Belfast in the County of Belford and State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but sound in memory do make this my last Will and Testament as follows viz I will my body to the grave and soul to god who gave it. Next my lawful debts to be paid and my funeral expenses. Next I give and bequeath unto my son Daniel all the use and benefit of my plantation till the first day of April next, ensuing with all the grain now in the ground. Next I do appoint that as soon as can be convenient after my decease that my land with my moveable property be exposed to public sale and when the money can be collected, then a division of the moneys to be made amongst all my children, that is to say my sons Jacob, Peter and Daniel shall each have twenty five dollars first and also they shall have all the wool and woollen yarne now in the house equally divided between the three sons before named. Then the remainder of my estate be equally divided amongst my sons above named and my daughters Mary, Anna and Sarah. And I do appoint my son Daniel and William Streight Junr to be my lawful Executors of this my last will and Testament made this Twenty third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, as witness my hand and seal." John Streight.
(Compilers note - [1]. Because this John's will was probated in June of 1813, he could not have married Briget Shaw in August of 1813, so we have eliminated the marriage to her. [2].
