This family was one of the Palatine immigrant families that went to the Palatine camps on the Hudson river abt 1710.....arriving in NYC thru England from Amsterdam mid summer-Sept 1709 and 1710.

Johan Leonardt and Johan Jacob, brothers were well known and vestrymen of the church at Pluckemin, SOMERSET CO, New Jersey later on and are well documented there...Johan Frederick was in the Kingston NY area.

Johan Jacob Streit was a neighbor to Lucas Teeple(mentioned above)there in Pluckemin......

so seeing that they were all born +- 1700 and marrying age at 1720 or so it is a possibility that...as was the custom of naming children, that your Rev Christian Streit, born abt 1749 in SOMERSET CO...(Pa?) could be a son of either Johan Jacob (jacob) or
Johan Leonardt (Leonard).....and that they named the son after the Grandfather---Christian....the time line would be just about correct........

Johan Frederick's daughter Anna Maria (also) b June 15, 1726 married the son of another Teeple descendant, Nov 23, 1748.....making the 2 Anna Maria Streits, aunt and neice....all my info comes from documented church records and baptisms....and from the  NJ archives...

from my research into German derivitive families like this...it was a common  occurance of naming children after relatives....

Christian Streit and his family were on Jno. Untank's ship in the 5th party of Palatines to leave Holland (Rotterdam Lists).  Numerous references have been found for Christian and his family some of which are contradictory and must be examined with care.  See Mr. Jones' "Palatines to New York".

Germany via England to New York
  January, 1710

This register was originally prepared by Ulrich Simmendinger after his return to Germany from the colonies, where he had been part of the Palatine migration for seven years. The names given are all who were living in 14 early New York settlements at the time of his departure in 1717. It is assumed most of these were passengers of a fleet of 10 ships (names of ships unknown), 3000 people, leaving England January 1710

Original found in the New York Public Library in 1926, now public record. Photostat copies can be had by addressing the New York Library. It consists of 24 pages, printed in German

History of the Register and Ulrich Simmendinger

Ulrich Simmendinger was born in 1672 in the city of Reutlingen which is some twenty miles south of Stuttgart in the Province of Wurtemberg, Germany. His occupation is unknown. He married Anna Maria Schnabel of Cannstatt, a town near Stuttgart. They had two children.

Simmendinger departed for England with his wife and children on July 31, 1709 being attracted to America by the promises of William Penn's Quaker agents, who sought colonists for the newly established commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In 1710 the Queen, getting pressure from the parties in England, felt it necessary to restrict emigration from Germany. A group of Germans, including the Simmendinger family landed in England after waiting several weeks for permission to cross the Channel. It is here that the two Simmendiger children died. It is assumed that he and his wife were among the 3,000 Palatines who
sailed from London in a fleet of ten ships in January, 1710. On this voyage some 480 passengers died and one vessel was wrecked on the American coast. The voyage took six months. After reaching New York they were quarantined for five
months on Nutten (now Governor's) Island where 250 more succumbed to ship's fever and 84 orphaned children were apprenticed.

The names appearing here may also be found in the Ration Lists of Governor Hunter, in the Colonial Census of 1710, and at least two in the List of Apprenticed Children, 1710-1714.

From a Rootsweb site posted by T. Manning, Jr.: "Caspar was a surveyor for Robert Livingston and as such lived and worked in various areas of this large Manor. The English Land Grant for Massachusetts contained little to indicate a western border. The Livingston Manor's eastern border was clearly designated as twelve miles east of the Hudson River. Records indicate that Mass. claimed land belonging to the Manor and attempted to settle there. During a confrontation
between the two sides Caspar and another man were killed. It was only after this loss of life that England could be bothered to resolve this dispute. Caspar's untimely death left his wife, Margartha, and three small children. A fourth child was born to them six months after his death. Margaretha later remarried. Caspar was listed as a Deacon at the Ref. CH. at Linlithgo in 1755
