Counseling by Appointment

Morning Star Christian Counseling Services provides Christian counseling for individuals, Couples, and families.  Stan is a National Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Christian Impact Therapy.  The Bible provides the foundational theoretical position for therapy.  A variety of counseling theories and techniques are utilized in individual counseling situations.  Impact Therapy is an active, theory driven creative approach to counseling, solution based and brief in nature.  Creative techniques, illustrations from everyday life, and ordinary props are utilized in this active approach to counseling.  Theories utilized include Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Adlerian Psychology, and Reality Therapy.
With couples and family counseling, the above mentioned theoretical approaches are integrated with a Systems Model approach to marital counseling.  Communications skills, self-discipline, listening, and getting into the other person's world are fundamental skills taught in marriage and family therapy.  Basic to all marital counseling is the understanding that God created marriage to last for a lifetime.  Separation and divorce are not options unless there is dangerous physical abuse involved.
A program of Marriage Enrichment is taught at MSCCS where couples are helped to evaluate the state of their union, usually rating their marriage on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being as bad as it can get, and 10 being as good as God can make it.  Using that information couples are taken through a program of marriage enrichment that enables them to move their relationship up the scale to the TERRIFIC AREA where marriage continually becomes more fulfilling for both partners.   A basic principle in this program  the fact that good stable marriages, with a little more effort, in most cases only about 5% more, can grow into TERRIFIC marriages.  Stan and Nieta travel around the country teaching this program of enrichment in churches and retreat settings.  For more information on workshops and seminars check out the "Workshops" page on this site.
Several assessment devices are employed in both individual and marriage counseling.  The devices most frequently utilized include the Myers / Briggs Temperament Indicator and various temperament indicators derived from Myers Briggs.  For marital counseling the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis Profile and ENRICH assessment devices are utilized.

INTENSIVE:  Pastors and the Pastor's Family Suffering from Burnout.

The pastorate isn't just for shepherds anymore.  Today's pastor lives in a glass parsonage, must be the perfect example of a husband and father, a strong pillar of the community, and a community leader.  He is the CEO of a complex organization that sometimes requires the equivalent of a MBA from Harvard. The pastor's wife, or in some cases the pastor's husband, may or may not have been called into the ministry; but, to be supportive, must take on the work of the ministry without the anointing of the office.  This responsibility can become more than one family can handle...BURNOUT.  If you are a minister, chances are that you have experienced burnout, or you may have a friend and colleague who was forced leave the profession because of burnout, or was unable to accept additional responsibility because of emotional fatigue.  Families suffering from burnout or sensing they are experiencing the tremors of burnout onset can come to the Manor for a three-day Intensive Burnout Recovery and Prevention program of therapy.  Take advantage of the facilities at the manor or stay in one of the motels in the area.  Information, scheduling, and rates are available upon request.  Contact the manor via E-mail or see the home page for phone and mailing address.

INTENSIVE:  Marriage Tune-ups and Therapy.

Christian couples suffering from marital difficulties can come to the manor for three day intensive marital therapy.  The program includes individual and conjoint counseling sessions and couple processing.  Communication skills, forgiveness, stress management, anger management, household task allocation techniques, love busters, and meeting emotional and physical needs are among the topics covered.  Overnight accommodations are available in the area and therapy is conducted at the manor.  Information, scheduling, and rates are available upon request.
