Rural Watercolors

Biographical Information

I have been painting and drawing since I was 10 years old. When other kids were out playing baseball, football or basketball, I was in my room working on another art project. Either a painting or a clay sculpture. I have always loved the arts and was able to appreciate art from a very early age. Things of beauty always stood out to me as something to enjoy. I would go for walks in the woods and take my sketch book and record what I saw on my walks. My formal training in art consisted of one year of art in high school and one year of studying with Nell Johnson of LaGrange, Georgia. Ms Johnson was the single most important influence on my art. She taught me how to really see what was before me, not just the overall but, the little details that are easily overlooked. The painting to the right is one of my most recent paintings. It is an entryway on main street in Clearsprings,Md. that caught my eye.

Current Projects

My newest watercolors
Since moving to Maryland I've haven't had as much time to paint as I would like but, I have been able to turn out a few paintings. I seem to find myself working on projects to improve the farm most of the time but, alas, it needs doing. The farm is so beautiful and is getting more so with every project we complete. As of late the project "to do" list is getting smaller so hopefully soon I will be able to concentrate more on my art. We shall see.

Some of my favorite sites!

Susan Kennedy Art
A wonderful site by a very talented Watercolorist from Georgia. Check out her "On-line Store" on E-Bay. Her watercolors are going for very reasonable prices. At these great prices you're getting "original" artwork too, not prints. I've seen much less talented artist selling prints for what she is asking for her originals. I expecially love her miniatures. She gets more detail in them than most people have in their large size paintings. If you're looking for instructions in painting she also has some very good instructional pages on how she does her watercolors. They're not free but they are worth the money. Her still lifes are so realistic you can almost smell the flowers and I was very tempted to take a bite out of one of her apples! So, check her out. You'll be glad you did.
