| Moms Apple Pie Grafite On Paper |
| Many of my grafite drawings are done from fond memories of my past. Such as the "Mom's Apple Pie" I can still remember the smell of the apple pie baking in the oven when I was a kid on the farm. Other wonderful smells that often filled our house as Mother made things such as blackberry jam or jellie and various pies and cakes or cookies. We grew up poor but you would never have known it from the meals that we ate. It's a lot easier to eat well when you grow everything you eat. We had a kitchen garden of about an 1/8th of an acre. Then there were the cows, pigs, chickens (lots of chickens, as we lived on a chicken farm) and various other domestic animals. |

| We all had many jobs to do on the farm from weeding the gardens to bush hogging the pastures, feeding the animals and my main job, collecting the eggs. Once collected I had to wash them, weigh them and measure them. Then I would sort them by size and put them into egg cartons. The egg scale shown here was probably 75 years or so old but, still worked perfectly. You learn to make things last when you work on a farm, If it doesn't last you have to replace it and money was tight. Many of the impliments we had were probably from the 30's and 40's. The old addage 'They don't make them the way they used to", is very true. Very few things manufactured today will last as long as those made 30 or 40 years ago. |

| Flowers are one of the most popular subjects to paint or draw and take a lot of work to get the texture of the flower to come across,.especially in a drawing. I worked on this rose for about 5 hours before I concidered it completed. The rose was sent to a secretary at work by her husband. Guess he must have been in the dog house for something. As a kid when I first became interested in drawing I used to go for walks in the woods and draw many of natures treasures. I would find things along the way like wildflowers, mushrooms and many other items with interesting texture. I still do this today. It is so pleasurable to get out of the city and discover the many wonders of the woods. |

| To me the iris is one of the most beautiful flowers there is. The colors are always so strong and the texture is amazing. This one was growing in a neighbor's yard where I used to live in Cumming, Georgia. The neighbor had quite a few planted in her front yard along the drive. They were bright purple and had a texture like velvet. |
