Tirana is the capital and the largest city in Albania with a population of 320,000 inhabitants, and it is the political, economical and cultural center. Because of the economical crises during 1990 to 1995, many new settlers have settled in Tirana. Most of them are from suburban area and other cities of Albania. It is believed that in Tirana live more than 500 000 people. The convenience location of this place attracted the feudal lords of 1614 to build this city. According to Marin Barleti, people spoke of little Tirana and big Tirana. During the 18th century, Tirana started to grow in a big city. There were build many factories which attracted many villagers and unemployed people to search their luck for new future and hope in this town. The most known feudal lord and lord family was the family of Toptanis. In the 1920 (at the Congress of Lushnja), Tirana was proclaimed as the capital of Albania. |
