Kor�a is located in the southern part of Albanian at 40�37?N, 20�46?E. Settled in the laarge basin at the foot of the Morava mountains and on the slope of  St. Thana hill at 860m above sea level, Kor�a is the larges and major city in the southern Albania.  Kor�a covers an area of 3750Km�. It is a host of  of around 64 000 people making it the seventh largest city in Albania. According to the Albanian census of 1989, Albanians compromise 99.8% of the population of the district. Less then 0.2% of the citizens of the city are Albanians who decleare themselves as Greek, Aromanians or Gypcies, and even Slavic Gypcies known as Slavic Macedonians. Those Albanians that convert themselves into something else are the lowest level of the population that have no recognition and no respect in sociaty. Most of them are with huge criminal records.  For employment reasons and claiming refugee status in Greece and abroad, these Albanians find easies to decleare themselves as non Albanians. Many of them find deportation due to the criminal activities. In general, the people of Kor�a are friendly and generous. In the early evening, the citizens of Kor�� walk in pairs around the town. The people of Kor�a are peasant that for centuries have valued honor of being true Albanian. Kor�� has been an important religious center for centuries for both the Orthodox Christians and the Muslims. It is the seat of an Orthodox metropolitan bishop and also possesses a large 15th century mosque. There is a sizeable Shija Muslims or  Bektashi community in and around Kor��. There is the main center of Bektashi, the Turan Tekke.
Kor�a is the major city in the Kor�� District. The city is among the cleanest cities in Albania with a great urban values. The clean streets and stone walkways are the signature of ancient Illyrian architecture. Quaint cobblestone streets run between and behind the main streets. There are a lot of stores and historical monuments. The city is situated in a very well developed agricultural plane that for centuries provided enough food for the region. The soil is highly fertile, and it is one of Albania's main wheat-growing areas. Most of the citizens of the city are farmers.  In addition, the city is a commercial and industrial center producing foodstuffs, knitwear, rugs and textiles, flour-milling, brewing, and sugar-refining. Lignite deposits are mined nearby. Deposits of lignite coal are mined in the mountains nearby such as Mborje-Drenove. There are a lot of markets and stores. The city was known as trading center throughout of centuries. It remembered the ancient caravans as began their travel to east and north.
Kor�� is famous for the high level of education of its high schools, mostly in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and foreign languages. Some of them are: The General Middle School "Raqi Qirinxhi", "Themistokli Germenji", "Preca College," "Foreign Languages", "Agricultural School " and etc. Students with a degree from these schools are ready to attend brightly all the best Universities of Europe and USA. The city is also home of "Fan S. Noli University" which offers several degrees in humanities, business, and sciences. The city is the home of the football (soccer) club  KS Sk�nderbeu Kor��, which was the Albanian Champion in 1933.
The name itself has a meaning in the Albanian language. The name �Kor�a� is derived from "Kor-r�a" which means �cut and separate or tear� or �cut and tear." The other names used for this city is �Kovitca.�  �Kov� means pail.
Kor�� is known since ancient time. The Illyrian city of Pelion where life started from the beginning of the time. Neolithic remains have been found indicating Illyrian neolithic actvities in 6000 BC onwards. The Illyrians were the first to start to demesticate  wild horses. The domestication of the horses continoued, and the citizens of  Pelion (Kor�a)  possessed horses. By 3000 BC every house in Pelion had a horse. The Copper Age lasted from 3000 BC to 2100 BC, and was followed by the Bronze Age. Since the creation of time, the people of Pelion started to look on the skies. There were a lot of arcifatct found in the viscinity of Kor�a tha specify the alignment of naked eye planets which took place in 1953 BC. The ancient healers and scientists of Kor�a ecperimented with lat of plants today know as narcotic substances. People started to run nad could not be cought or stopped. Some were involved with abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. Some other cases manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions or disorganized speech and thinking in the context of significant social or occupational dysfunction. For first time was used the word schizein or �Sezen� and �freno.� Both words are in Illyrian language, and they have meaning in today Albanian language. The word �Sezen�  means cannot be captured and �freno� means stopping or braking. From those two words, the ancient scientists of Pelion (Kor�a) called a sickness  �Sezenfrena,�   which described a mental disorder to a man. The scientists from ancient Pellion presented their findings all over. From the word �Sezenfrena�, the modern  sciense recognizes  Schizophrenia. For first time , it was used in the city of Pelion (Kor�a)in 2100 BC � 2050 BC. Arround 2000, there were creation of classes, wealthy and poor. The Slavery was imminent. The wealthiest started building huge houses and palaces, and they hired guards to guard them. Pelion (Kor�a)  is controlled by a number of palaces which govern the religious and economic life of the people living in nearby towns and farms. The pottery flourished the town. In 1700, Pelion (Kor�a) experienced construction of new palaces. The ancient Illyrians started to fortify themselves with high walls and strong guards around the walls. The settlement grows wealthy from trade. In the city of Pelion (Kor�a), rulers were buried with precious objects in deep shaft graves. After many wars, their graves were stolen and demolished.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished arround 1600 BC  in the city of Pelion (Kor�a). The Mycenaean were mixture of Illyrian tribes. They enetered in Pellion to find more of their kind. The Mycenaeans start to build fortified hill-top citadels in Pelion (Kor�a). In 1550, Pelion (Kor�a). Experienced huge earthquake that demolished the entire town. It is believed that the earthquake was caused due to the Volcanic explosion on the island of Thera. In Albanian language, �Thera,� means thorn. Many people died in this earthquake, and the wealthiest one started to colonize other places. The people of Pelion (Kor�a) created a form of writings similar to Mycenaean and other, which writing is still called Linear B.  In 1400 BC, the city of Pelion (Kor�a) was rulled by monarchy and war lords. There were several armies led by wealthy families. Nevertheless, the strength of  Mycenaean started to decline by 1200 � 1100 BC. Many armies from the region of Pelion (Kor�a) participated in the Trojan War arround 1180BC. The people of Pelion (Kor�a)  song the song of a beauty of Helen that fired thousand of shipps.  Nevertheless, the people of Pelion (Kor�a) were not satisfied with the life in the region. They joined the group of people called Dorians and destroyed the Mycenaeans. The Dorian name comes from the Illyrian or Albanian word �Dora� meaning hand. The pottery and Iron was in huge demand, the citizens of Pelion (Kor�a) for first time created a Protogeometric pottery. In .950 BC, the Iron was in a widespread use. Around 910BC, the scientists of Illyria started to challenge the old writings and introduced new letters. Pelion (Kor�a) enters a period of social, economic and cultural change. New palaces are built, iron is widely used, and Pelion (Kor�a) becomes prosperous from trading. The citizens of Pelion (Kor�a) adopt the Phoenician alphabet and introduce additional letters to represent the vowel sounds in 800 BC. There were play writers and actors who presented in front of the public in 550 BC in Pelion (Kor�a). The actors performed mostly during religious festivals. It is believed that ancient actor and singer and story teller, Homer, visited Pelion (Kor�a). Pelion (Kor�a) acted as independent city state such as other cities.  The athletes of Pelion (Kor�a) participated in the first ancient Olympic Games around 776BC. They were dedicated to the Olympian gods and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia. During the 600, the ruling families introduced laws to govern the citizens and trade.
