Anti-Aging Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Overall Impression: Good Review Cellex-C was one of the original clinical skin care lines that came out of the 1990s. It became popular because it was really quite revolutionary at the time of its conception. Instead of multiple active ingredients that one would expect in such an expensive line, they focused on simplicity and just a few key active ingredients (particularly Vitamin C). This ended up being very successful both as a marketing tool and in actual effectiveness on the skin. But a lot has changed since then. First, while it used to be an exclusive doctor/spa-only line, now almost every internet personal care store carries Cellex-C. Second, a number of proven active ingredients have been researched/discovered since then which have not made their way into Cellex-C formulas. So while the beautiful simplicity of the line is what pushed them to the top, it now seems to be their drawback as smaller companies come out with increasingly multifaceted products that use several active ingredients to achieve a broader spectrum of results. Additionally, while the line has maintained a lot of its original following, there have been rumors that changes have been made in the Vitamin C used in their products because of some patent/distribution issues (no one at the company would confirm this when we called so it remains a rumor). A special form of stabilized L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C was the cornerstone of these formulas in the beginning, so if it has changed then this could tremendously influence the effectiveness of the individual products. Depending on which retailer is carrying their products, the posted ingredient lists can mention either Ascorbic Acid or L-Ascorbic Acid as being the form used. Many people have achieved excellent results from this line, so despite some critics it still remains a highly effective, clinical skin care company, but for the price per formula it would be wise to consider other options. Typical Price Range Up to $120 for a face cream, up to $135 for a body product, and up to $70 for an eye-area product.
