Review
Aloette has a number of products in their line, but for brevity only the anti-aging ones will be discussed here. They are divided into two categories: "maintenance" and "restoration." The products include moisturizers, cleansers, serums, masks, lip treatments and eye care. However, none of these products have published ingredients lists on the website so it difficult evaluate them from that standpoint. Very little about the products� ingredients are discussed, while great attention is paid to what they are intended to do. Without knowing what is included, it is difficult to determine how effective they are and whether or not they perform as intended. Judging by user reviews (which are copious), though, the products don't do much. Most reviewers saw no change in their skin, while some reported irritation and breaking out (though this was a minority of cases). The most common benefit reported was just a good moisturizing effect.
The company does not post any research, even when it describes an ingredient as being �clinically proven.� They also have an infomercial that runs late at night, which is often a warning sign to consumers. Lines marketed in this way often are auto-ship programs that are designed to deceive consumers by automatically charging the consumer's credit card every month in hopes they will forget to cancel their account. Also, lines that advertise in this way are often formulated to use cheaper ingredients so they can retail the line at "middle America" prices, which are their target audience (as opposed to being formulated with a doctor/spa, clinical audience in mind).
The actual presentation of the line comes off as quite pretentious, as the company's founder posts her picture on everything. The About Us section has an "About Christie Cohen" link that comes off largely as a monument to her own ego (which is also how the informercials seem to come off during her "interview").
