.::SARAH KAWAHARA

In 1987, Scott decided he needed a change in skating style, so he enlisted the help of newly retired show skater Sarah Kawahara. Kawahara was known for her interesting show programs which she skated in many of the Ice Capades type skating shows.

Their first collaboration was to the song "When I'm 64" and they would continue to work together until Scott's retirement--though we may see him make a comeback next season (2006/07)--in 2004.

In 1996, Scott and Sarah worked on possibly one of their greatest works, his television special entitled "Scott Hamilton: Upside Down" which was produced by Disney. Kawahara choreographed the entire program, and in doing so won her first Emmy.

1997 found Sarah coaching Scott back into condition for Stars On Ice after his brief battle with testicular cancer. She choreographed two programs and stayed with him as he slowly but surely made his way back to where he'd been prior to the disease. It wasn't easy, he wasn't always in the best mood, but she never let him give up on himself.

In 2001/2002 with the Olympics fast approaching, Michelle Kwan asked Sarah to choreograph her long program as well as her exhibition which was to Eva Cassidy's "Field of Dreams." Kwan placed 3rd in Salt Lake City, and her exhibition moved many to tears.

Kawahara was also responsible for the choreography of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. She won an Emmy for her work there as well. She continues to choreograph for skaters, as well as shows.
