What Can SK Do For You?

In our society where social vices and substance abuse are prevalent, it is essential for one to be guided accordingly to be unaffected by these temptations. When people particularly those who are in their adolescent years get flustered and problematic with their lives and they feel that nobody in their family could understand them, their natural response is to turn to their friends for comfort and acceptance. This is a natural character of man. When he has so many questions, he searches for answers. He looks for something that would fill the hollow phase inside of him. Something that would replace what is missing in his life. If he could not feel love from his family, he would seek for it from other people. These people could be a good influence but they could also lead his life to astray. These so called friends could motivate him to use drugs, alcohol and other vices to forget his problems. And having been accepted by them, he might feel tempted not to disappoint them and also do what they are doing. This is a scenario that is common in our society that the need to address this issue is now crucial to our nation.

The youth as Rizal said, is the future of our country. If we would let the youth on their own, a greater number of them would probably end up wasting their lives on meaningless things. This is where Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) comes in. The SK aims to promote and instill good values to the youth. It also aims to steer the youth to discover what they are capable of doing and how they could contribute to our society. These could be achieved through programs and activities that the SK implements in order to motivate them from their betterment as people. These could be in the form of sports activities, community service programs and livelihood projects. And through this, SK poses as a venue where teenagers could gain friends and feel accepted in their community.

In this tumultuous and confusing years of the youth when they feel that their choices are only drugs, alcohol and other vices, Sangguniang Kabataan offers them a better alternative. This alternative challenges our youth to act responsibly and make better choices in order to assume the role of uplifting our nations stature to greater heights in the coming years, in the near future.
