"I went to [Michigan] State for two years and then I went to Michigan.  I loved Michigan.  And I lived at the Martha Cook Building, which was a lovely, lovely gracious hall, and somewhat limited.  You had to have pretty good grades to get in there to begin with.  I ended up majoring in Latin and minoring in history and English.  I liked school, I think I could be a perpetual student."

Pearl Harbor
"Pearl Harbor was declared.  I know it was my senior year, in December, December 7th, and I can remember coming home from church and found out we had been attacked.  And I went over to give blood and I was sent home with iron pills, they didn't want my blood, I was anemic.  That's just one of those dates people remember."

Good Times
"[I] liked the various class dances, like Sadie Hawkins [and] Prom, and I liked the football games.  I was always very active in athletics, I could be tired as could be on class day and then I could go over and play a game of basketball or a game of badminton and get all revived.  There was no such things as athletic scholarships for women.  I loved athletics and was pretty good at it, I always played on the intramural teams."

Martha Cook
"One of my favorite things from Martha Cook, this was the last day of school before Christmas vacation, they always had this big breakfast where you could invite your mothers.  And Mom was able to get down and stay all night in the dorm and then go down for this breakfast in the morning.  It was always candlelight, and a big hoopla made out of it."
