| Q. What was the Brigade?
A. The former St. John Ambulance Brigade is now known as the "St. John Ambulance Community First Aid Volunteers" or "Medical First Responders" or "Patient Care Providers". They are an efficient and effective group of volunteers trained to provide first aid and health care at public events. Brigade members are the link between the occurance of injury or illness and the arrival of medical assistance.
| Q. How much did it cost to be a member?
A. The only cost to joining the Brigade was your time. Training, sundry expenses and your distinctive uniform were provided to you. (Some Provincial/Territorial Councils reserve the right to charge a small administration fee and/or deposit on uniforms which may vary from Province to Province.)
| Q. How much time is involved?
A. The average Brigade member contributed 3 to 4 hours per week - which works out to about 200 hours per year. There is a minimum of 60 hours required per year to remain proficient. Brigade volunteers tended to contribute many hours every year - because it was rewarding and fun!
| Q. What qualifications did I need?

The new Medical First Responders must have successfully completed a Medical First Responders course through Saint John Ambulance.
| Q. How old did I have to be?
A. If you were 18 years or older, you could join the St. John Ambulance Brigade. You can now join the Medical First Responders (in your area) if you're of that age and can successfully complete the Medical First Responders course.
