White Zombie - Astro-Creep: 2000 (1995) Reviewed on 10/29/04

Good

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Industrial/Groove/Post - Thrash Metal

Pros: The album that contained the anthem of 1995, "More Human Than Human." This album truly marked a time in post 80's heavy metal that really brought in a chart topping hit. Along with Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and a select few other non-traditional metal bands White Zombie truly re-envisioned the way we listened to heavy metal (not to mention they opened the door for the nu-metal bands of the late 90's). This album, while being a chart topper, really has some cool shit in it. It has groovy licks, industrial overtones (which ushered in the popularity of bands such as Nine Inch Nails). This is a memorable album based on its original catchiness by combining various genres (sometimes being dubbed disco metal), and being so damn popular.

Cons: Despite its originality, it really isn't anything impressive musically. Rob Zombie isn't a particularly good vocalist (but he definitely worked well in this band), and most of the songs consist of some catchy riff that kind of gets repetitive after 4 + minutes of song, all combined with the industrial overtones that just led to something that wasn't really outstanding beyond it being simply "memorable."
