Therion - Beyond Sanctorum (1992) Reviewed on 9/18/04

Amazingly...

Nation: Sweden

Album Genre: Death Metal

Pros: Outrageously awesome death metal! This album is borderline genius. You can definitely tell there is tons of creative juices locked away in these guys considering the total transformation these guys make in their later output (death metal to symphonic metal). This is just an incredibly innovative and musically accomplished piece of metal. This is necessary for any heavy metal fan to hear.

Cons: Absolutely none that presents itself to this set of ears.

Vewy Good

Nation: Sweden

Album Genre: Symphonic Metal (w/ Death Metal overtones)

Pros: Possibly one of the best pieces of symphonic metal out there. With a combination of sometimes brutal death metallish guitar work, Therion trademarked chanting, and electronic symphonic savvy backgrounds in original compositions create an atmospheric masterpiece that is hard to match. Classic metalwork combined with progressive classical and electronic influences litter this album, and Therion is not afraid to show it off.

Cons: The chanting can become a bit wearing at times.
