The Police - Outlandos d'Amour (1978) Reviewed on 12/15/04

Amazingly...

Nation: United Kingdom

Album Genre: Rock/New Wave/Reggae/Post-Punk

Pros: The only rock group that comes close to reaching the originality and proficiency of The Police would be U2, and seeing the giant superstars U2 are today, that is a major statement. The fact is, The Police is probably my all time favorite new age rock group of the 80's. Sting's amazing vocals combined with the undubious freshness of their sound sting rings true today well over 20 years later. This album started it all off for The Police, and is perhaps their best undertaking. It contains two of my favorite Police songs, including "Roxanne", and "So Lonely" which ALWAYS puts me in a good mood. When I am feeling down in the dumps, Sting manages to perk me up with this reggae-rock ballad like no other (only comparison could be Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon"). This is just....a quintessential album for me and deserves its place in everyone's collection. I will end this with a challenge, for any new age jam band to come up with an album that challenges Outlandos a'Amour's, because I just don't think it'll happen (Okay, my slight stab at jam bands is done...teehee).

Cons: BAH!
