Persuader - Evolution Purgatory (2004) Reviewed on 1/16/05

Good

Nation: Sweden

Album Genre: Power Metal

Pros: This is yet another album I don't think deserves the amount of acclaim it receives. Sure, it is a good album, but I just don't hear the maganificent qualities everyone claims this album possesses. I am a fan of power metal, so there are no particular grudges I have against the genre or this particular album, I just honestly think this is just an average album. However, with that said, I do understand why people would love this album--these guys can play. The solos are damn good, and the drumming is superb. The highlight track on the album for me is "Raise Hell."

Cons: The vocals I find kind of irritating, and the choruses are produced terribly with them coming in at odd times and MUCH louder than the rest of the music thus drowning everything out. If this band got rid of the Hansi Kursch clone (Im sorry, but he sounds EXACTLY like Hansi!) and got more melodic vocals, I think they band would work out much better. I simply can't tolerate the screeching vox--it becomes way too distracting.
