Moonspell - Wolfheart (1995) Reviewed on 2/27/05

Eh...

Nation: Portugal

Album Genre: Gothic Metal/Folk Metal

Pros: Well....this is.....gothic. Unfortunately though, it is kind of boring to me. I do enjoy Goth bands, but this Moonspell release just doesn't do it for me. In order to not short what positives it does have, I will explain what this band does right. Moodiness is down to a T on this album and transitions from soft to heavy are well done. A good example of these things are demonstrated well on the track "Trebaruna."

Cons: Okay, this album is boring, simple as that. I will not expound on the delicate nature of how and when the album went bad for me because it is a well pieced together album, with one glaring misplacement...catchiness. Now granted, this is a goth album, and melody and hooks are not necessarily key to creating a successful album, but neither is bland song structures with the same monotone vocals throughout the entire album. The highlights are the breif folky interludes here and there across the breadth of the album. I dunno, maybe I need to take a break and give this album another listen. In the meantime though, I am going to keep this score and let this sucker lie.
