Johansson - The Last Viking (1999) Reviewed on 1/8/05

Vewy Good

Nation: Sweden

Album Genre: Progressive Metal/Power Metal

Pros: Ripping the 60's synth organ sound from it's retro roots, combined with some progressive metal and some fabulous vocals from Mr. Göran Edman who was the one time singer of the guitar aficionado Yngwie Malmsteen and his band. This is a simple side project from the very talented Johansson brothers, but the melodies flow very well (especially the mutual workings of Edman and keyboards by Jens Johansson). This album is a well manicured progressive piece of music with a an original sound. It is truly unfortunate the brothers decided to only construct this project into a side one. Well....maybe it's all for the better. Now the legacy of Johannson can be remembered on a high note. Some highlights include "In the Mirror" and "Forest Song."

Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
