Fifth Angel - Fifth Angel (1986) Reviewed on 1/3/05

Amazingly...

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Power Metal

Pros: WOW! This is NOT what I was expecting at all! After reviewing Time Will Tell a few months ago, I was severely disappointed by the hype behind this band, but this...wow, this is an early power metal classic! I am just dumbstruck by this album, I don't know why I never gave this album a try before now. This band takes the BEST in catchiness from Dio, Iron Maiden, Grim Reaper and Helloween, and wraps it all up into just...a great, powerful album that every fan of metal should pay homage to. I wrote in the second album's review that if this band went in a more power metal type of direction, they would sound alot better. Little did I know that the soaring vocals, kick ass guitar solos and melodies would define the album before it! This is a pleasant find to say the least.

Cons: Negative...move on to album #2 for my feedback about what this band would become!

Fifth Angel - Time Will Tell (1988) Reviewed on 9/29/04

Eh...

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Traditional Metal

Pros: The vocalist is very good on this album. I think if the band decided to go in a speed metal/true early power metal direction instead of the stupid generic mainstream metal route they did take to make their product easily accessible would have made this album (and this band for that matter) alot more stand out and important in the heavy metal world. These guys had the talent, they just didn't show it off.

Cons: Very generic traditional heavy metal. I listened to this album after hearing alot of good thingsabout this band, as they were supposedly the unsung heroes of the underground early 80's power metal movement, but in reality all I hear is VERY generic heavy metal with a few Helloween ideas thrown in for good measure. This is not a very good album at all.
