Exorcist - Nightmare Theatre (1985) Reviewed on 10/16/04

Good

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Thrash/Speed Metal

Pros: Imagine a power metal band doing a side project as an "evil" speed metal band. If you can possibly imagine that, you'll hear the gentle (well....not so gentle) rumblings of Virgin Steele's side project, Exorcist from WAY back in the day! These guys formed this band, seemingly, to vent out all their pent up aggression, because this album has it. Had a simpler, un-accomplished band tried to pull off what "Exorcist" did with this release, they would have failed miserably and fell into the unreturning pit of cheesiness. Now, Nightmare Theatre is indeed cheesy, much a 1980's horror movie is cheesy, but it's GOOD cheesy. All the small "evil" sounding interludes in between songs really seem to add to the atmosphere of an album that could hold up well on its own regardless of the extra interesting features of the album.

Cons: The cheesiness of the album can become laughable at times. I mean, the cover art explains it all.
