Down - Nola (1995) Reviewed on 11/11/04

Amazingly...

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Sludgy Heavy Metal

Pros: What do you get when you put together some of metal's most well known drunks and druggies? You get some amazing fucking chops....southern style! I am still relatively new to sludge metal, but at the I am writing this review, this is by far the best sludgy heavy metal I have ever heard. If Lynard Skynyrd joined forces with Black Sabbath, this album would be the result. Also, above all the amazing instrumental workings throughout the album, Phil Anselmo (of Pantera fame) really shows us that when placed in the right atmosphere with the right musicians, this man can belt out some amazing shit with those blackened lungs of his. This album is truly a diamond in the rough.

Cons: As much as Phil Anselmo seems like a waste of life, him and his counterparts really excelled on this album, therefore the negatives are minimal.
