Dismember - Death Metal (1997) Reviewed on 12/30/04

Amazingly...

Nation: Sweden

Album Genre: Melodic Death Metal/Death Metal

Pros: Gothenburg...eat your heart out! The boys from across the way in Stockholm just SCHOOLED YOUR ASSES! While I love both In Flames and Soilwork, neither of them have been releasing anything resembling death metal after their first or second album. Dismember shows the world truly, what melodic death metal is...not Gothenburg stuff claiming to be anything more than aggressive melodic metal. And the best part is...Dismember doesn't usually do straight up melodic stuff! While Soilwork and In Flames entertain the mainstream kiddies with music bordering on nu-metal nowadays, Dismember are still recognizing their roots with blaring death metal! While this record is what I would consider melodic, there are still moments ("Trendkiller", "Let the Napalm Rain", "Stillborn Ways") that show they can rip it up with traditional death metal riffs. Dismember are vets at the game, and this album is surely a highlight of their careers.

Cons: Songs could have been longer!
