Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence (1987) Reviewed on 1/9/05

Amazingly...

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Thrash Metal

Pros: One of the best thrash albums in existence. If this album had better vocals, it could possibly be the best of it's genre, bar none. However, despite the lack of grounded vocals, the music is absolutely stunning and brutal at the same time. Thrash was grown to be played like this; breathtaking speed, intricate (yet sometimes sloppy) guitar solos, and absolutely brutal breakneck (literally) riff breakdowns that utterly bring any concert hall into a frenzy of motion and violence. This album embodies the spirit of what thrash metal is and always will be. If you consider yourself a fan of thrash on any level, you have to give this album a good listen.

Cons: The vocalist is quite poor on this album; completely out of key (I know sometimes albums can benefit form this, but this is not one of those cases), Mark Osegueda brings down what would otherwise be a completely flawless ablum from beginning to end. However, in certain parts of this album the vocals are so unbearable it's hard to concentrate on the music itself, which is truly what powers this album.
