Bleeding Through - Portrait of the Goddess (2002) Reviewed on 11/19/04

Good

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Metalcore

Pros: Definitely alot more focused on the death metal side of things in several songs. After carefully listening to it, there is still quite a bit of hardcore in the album, and perhaps I unfairly judged their album "This is Love, This is Murderous" based on the principals that this album had more metal influence, when in reality while there is more death metallish tendencies, the band still definitely leans on the hardcore end of things, which is fine, but it doesn't pick my fancy as much. Stand out tracks include "Portait of the Goddess", "III, Pt. 2", "Savior, Saint, Salvation", and "I Dream of July."

Cons: Clean vocal portions suck terribly. The lone hardcore portions are fairly uninspiring which leads them to sound like a second rate Hatebreed. The faster paced and melodic tunes are much better.

Bleeding Through - This is Love, This is Murderous (2003) Reviewed on 9/18/04

Good

Nation: United States

Album Genre: Metalcore

Pros: I really don't know where the band was going with this album. It seems like the vast majority of songs are very hardcore driven with fewer catchy riffs. On Portait of a Goddess, this band impressed the hell out of me because they really pushed the hardcore/death metal boundary with the riffs that had a combination of hardcore breakdowns, but death metal brutality. This album really has seemed to tone down the brutality of their second album and reverted back to a more traditional hardcore sound without as many death metal elements, and I think that that combination really made/makes this band stand out. "On Wings of Lead" does have some really good harmonizing though, and "What I Bleed Without You" has some brutal stuff along with some spontaniously fast riffs which pleasantly surprised me.

Cons: Kinda mixed in with the Pros portion.
