Bal-Sagoth - Atlantis Ascendant (2001) Reviewed on 12/20/04

Amazingly...

Nation: United Kingdom

Album Genre: Symphonic Metal (w/ aggressive vocals)

Pros: Awe-inspiring beauty with symphonic-atmosphere this band creates. With these sections, combined with the classic metallic stylings with black metal overtones, all wrapped up with flashy growling vocals makes for an original listen. Bal-Sagoth has something that many bands don't have--originality combined with immense song writing ability. There is nothing extremely agile about the technicality of the music, but the note writing is so melodic and memorable that it really sticks with a listener. This is a quality album...straight up.

Cons: I think more guitar technicality would do this band good. It would add some spice to it and give them more an early Therion flavor (which is VERY good).
