Annihilator - All For You (2004) Reviewed on 1/10/05

Good

Nation: Canada

Album Genre: Thrash Metal

Pros: The songs on here that are good, are really good in my opinion. The problem is they are relatively few and far between. The first time I heard this album I really thought it sucked. I thought there were a few standout numbers, but overall I thought they were betraying their sound. Now, months later, I am listening to it and I think it sounds better this time around. There's really not much I can say for my reasons. I just think the things that didn't work the last time I listened to this album fit more this time around. This is such a diverse album it's really hard for me to pinpoint what I liked about it and what I didn't because this is an album truly judged based on a song to song basis. I think maybe the storyline fit more this time around also helped.

Cons: Jeff Waters took a chance with this album (with the sound) like he normally seems to do. He always seems to have a few ballads, some mid paced songs, and then his trademark thrashers. However, sometimes when one takes chances on an album such as this, songs have a chance of simply failing; unfortunately for Jeff, this album is overall a failure for Annihilator. I don't want to get into specifics. The songs aren't too boring, too slow/too fast or not enough rhythym or whatever, they just are executed to be original but don't succeed. This is really hard to critique because I feel this is one of those albums that while being shitty for one person, could be a gem to another. You really have to listen to this to get a feel for whether or not you like it. Listen to Annihilator's back catalogue if you have not yet done so to get a feel for Jeff's sound, and then I would suggest listening to this one.
