Akela - A Fenevad (1992) Reviewed on 8/15/04

Eh...

Nation: Hungary

Album Genre: Thrash Metal/Traditional Metal

Pros: Instrumentally, Akela is an accomplished Hungarian band that just never really got off the ground outside of their home country. These guys know how to play, and have the ability to write a good album, but this one isn't it.

Cons: The vocalist tries way to hard to be bad ass and aggressive, and it comes off terribly. Akela tries way to hard at everything they do, whether its the drum rolls or the pinched harmonics, everything they do comes off as ridiculously cheesy to the point of not even being humorous. These guys do have chops, but they don't know what to do with them. Akela wants to have the aggression of a thrash band, but they simply can't get passed the standard traditional metal sound which I think holds them back, especially in the drum work.
