Climate
The City falls within the Type 1 climate,with two pronounced seasons:
dry from December to April and wet from
May to November. The main atmospheric systems affecting rainfall are the
southwest monsoon from June to September, the northeast monsoon from October
to February and the easterly waves from March to April. However, the central
mountains of Negros prevent the northeast monsoon and the easterly
waves from (saturating the weather condition in Sipalay) October to April.
The average rainfall in Sipalay is 2,369 mm. Typhoons, local thermal convections and inter-tropical convergence
zones contribute significantly to the total annual rainfall. At least 41
tropical cyclones have been recorded by PAGASA passing through Negros Island
within the last 53 years (1948 -2000), corresponding to an average of 82
tropical cyclones a year.
