 Synopsis

Released on March 23rd, 1984

Broken Chambers is considered the album on which Sinister Death consolidated their sound and image, while "Death Metal Demon" and "The Shredder" have become live standards. It is the only album to feature drummer Alan Silveriti.

Noted for its riff-driven proto-death metal sound and the wide range of two different lead vocalists, the album displays a wide variety of styles, moods, and textures.

The centerpiece "Death Metal Demon" is a nearly eight-minute track featuring heavy riffing, trading off with high-pitched vocals, and an extended guitar solo. "Martinet" and "The Shredder" are short, dense, high-powered rockers with many parts and changes. Riffs and solos dominate "Ethnic Cleansing", "Sentiment", and "Evil Hell", and the band finds more laid-back moments in the crooning piano-backed and moody "The Conversation".

Broken Chambers received a very positive reception but weak sales as it was released just as Thrash Metal was beginning to dominate the spotlight in the US. The band's popularity exploded in Europe with this release. The band recorded their first two albums with the independent Hell label under tight budgets; after living off a single meal per day while working side jobs to support themselves, the group grew frustrated and entered into a bitter contract dispute, which resulted in the rights to Broken Chambers and its demo recordings belonging to Hell Records.

It is the last album to feature founding member George Harden who tragically died during a performance on the subsequent club tour when lightning struck his amplifier......
