Episode 7.8

"End is Nigh"

written by: Doyle

January 3rd, 2002

Buffy and Spike are in a vampire nest. Buffys got a flame-thrower strapped to her back and is setting vamps ablaze with ease (while being very careful to avoid toasting Spike). Speaking of bleach boy, hes kicking the crap out of the vamps that got away from Buffy. Hes pretty good at throwing stakes across the room and dusting the remaining vamps too. He seems to be fighting in a similar style were so used to Buffy using. When all the vamps are dusted, Buffy looks at Spike and says, Good job, Slayer.

Opening Credits.

(Note: Because of the body switch, Buffy and Spike will be referred to by the character they are rather than the body theyre in.)

We return to what is apparently ten minutes before the events in the teaser. Spike and Buffy are working out their attack on the nest of vamps. Theyre in the Magic Box and Willow and Xander appear to be very confused (who isnt?). Willow snaps out of her utterly bemused trance to say, O-okay, let me just see if I got this. Spikes Buffy and Buffy is Spike? About time you got it. Spike says under his breath. Spike, shut-up. Buffy tells him, then goes over to where Xander is still looking confused. Buffy asks him if hed be able to get hold of a flame-thrower for them and when he doesnt respond, Buffy has to slap him. He says that he should be able to get a hold of one and asks Buffy what the plan is. Pretty much the flame-thrower. Buffy says.

When we return, weve apparently moved back in time again. Buffy and Spike are in the Summers home and gathering a few supplies from Buffys room. Buffy says to Spike that theyll go back to the magic shop and figure out what to do there. Spike tells Buffy that he needs to go answer natures call. I thought vampires didnt need to...go. Buffy says and tells him to hold it. Spike says he, Cant in this body. Buffy lets Spike go and waits downstairs for him. Dawn walks in and asks, What are you doing here, Spike? Wheres Buffy? and in classical bad timing, Spike comes downstairs saying, Alright Buffy, lets go get em, by gum! Dawn looks terribly confused and Buffy says shell explain everything when they return.

Buffy and Spike arrive at the Magic Box and find Xander and Willow lounging about. Buffy tells Spike not to say a word about whats happened. Lets just try and figure out how to get rid of these vamps and get our own bodies back. Spike suggests a flame-thrower and Buffy wonders aloud, Where are we going to get a flame-thrower, Spike? Xander and Willows ears almost literally prick up and Spike gives Buffy a look.

Buffy and Spike are still at the magic shop and theyre trying to cover for Buffys slip-up (not too successfully). Spike, incase youve forgotten, she is Buff-y, you are Spi-ke. Buffy just rolls her eyes at Xanders comment while Spike says, Dont try to make two syllables out of a one syllable word, lack-brain. Xander is a little surprised, Excuse me, Buffy, but I was trying to defend you. And youre doing a real bang-up job too. Buffy says sarcastically. Just at that moment, Tara and Anya enter the magic shop. Thinking Anya might reveal what she knows about the body switch to the others, Buffy asks both Anya and Tara if theyd go keep an eye on Dawn. Everyone gives Buffy a strange look so then Spike catches on to what Buffy had been trying to do and says, Thats actually a good idea...Spike. Go do that, Tara and Anya. Everyone shifts their gaze at Spike then he adds, Oh yeah...please. After a moment, Tara and Anya start to leave the magic shop but not before Anya asks, Have you figured out a way to switch you and Spike back into your own bodies yet, Buffy?

Weve moved backwards in time again. Buffy and Spike are acting very uneasy in each others bodies. Buffy tells Spike to stop looking down at *her* breasts. She then says that the Mystic Mind is the closest place to where they are right now and Tara might be able to switch them back. Spike asks, Are you that eager to get out of my hot little body, Slayer? Buffy makes an expression of disgust as they arrive at the Mystic Mind.

They walk inside and find Anya getting her palm read. Buffy wasnt counting on Anya being there. Anya, Spike says before Buffy can, shouldnt you be taking care of the money at the magic shop? Anya is a bit hurt by Spikes stereotyping of her and she says she wants to find out what her futures going to be like as a mother. Spike apologises and Buffy says to Tara that they need her help. After explaining what has happened, Tara says theres nothing she can do to switch them back. What about that gizmo you and Willow created to switch me back when I was in Faiths body? Buffy asks. Tara says that would only work if Spike and Buffy had ended up in each others bodies by using one of those devices. Spike and Buffy leave.

The scene changes to Buffy and Spike waking up in each others bodies with mind-crunching headaches from being knocked out. Buffys eyes flutter open and she sees herself. Thinking shes for whatever reason looking into a mirror, Buffy moves her hand up to touch her face. Spike does the exact same thing, thinking what Buffys thinking. Suddenly Buffy and Spike look down the front of themselves and notice somethings definitely wrong. Oh, Bloody hell! they both say in unison, then look at each other. Before Buffy can blame Spike for whats happened he says it had to be one of the vamps. Buffy declines Spikes offer to go after the vamps and says she just wants to get her own body back. Spike tries to explain that if they wish to get their own bodies back, they have to find the one who switched them. Buffy just ignores Spike and says two of her friends are witches and they should be able to switch them back.

Back in time again. Spike has told Buffy about the nest of vamps (theyre in their own bodies at this point). They walk into the nest and find...nothing. Spike says he could have sworn this was it when suddenly the vamps appear out of nowhere and attack both Buffy and Spike. Unbeknown to them as they fight, someone or some thing is keeping to the shadows and chanting. The figure shoots out a mystical wave of energy, which hits Buffy and Spike, rendering them unconscious.

Were now back to the present where Buffy and Spike have just wiped out the vamp nest. Spike notices one of the vamps who got away hiding in the shadows. Spike quickly has him by the throat, demanding that he switch them back. The vampire says hes not the one who changed them but he can tell them who did. Before he can tell them he explodes in a cloud of dust and a cloaked figure is revealed to be the source of the staking. He instantly sends Spike flying into a wall. Meanwhile, Buffy notices cloaked guy holding a stone in his hand with runes on it. She picks up the flame-thrower and burns the stone in cloaked guys hand. He yelps in pain and runs off. Spike blinks a few times and realises hes back in his own body. He goes to help Buffy up. Buffy says, Those cloaked guys are really starting to piss me off.
