"Letter from a Birmingham Jail" WebQuest
1.  "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" is Dr. King's response to a statement written by eight fellow clergy.  Read that statement and write either a reaction to this statement or your own response addressing the issues raised in this document.  Please complete this portion of the WebQuest prior to reading Dr. King's response.

2.  The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute has developed an oral history of the Movment.
Click here and select three interviews to watch, listen to and learn from.  Then, write a one-page reaction paper to each video.  Try to select interviews that will provide you with a cross-section of perspectives.

3.  The Civil Rights Movement had strength throughout the nation.  Visit this
list of historic places in the Movement and select three whose history moves you.  Then, create a postcard for each location.  When creating your postcards, think about the information that is typically included on a postcard, front and back, not just simply an image or collection of images.

4.  The music of the era was integral in building support for the Civil Rights Movement.  Listen to audio clips from songs from the following albums (and feel free to download the entire song if you have access to legal music downloading software).  Then, write lyrics to a demontration song about an issue that is important to you today.

Sing for Freedom
Voices of the Civil Rights Movement
Freedom is a Constant Struggle

5.  By the time you get to this step, we will have read "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" as a class.  Think about the analyses and observations we have made about the text, its language and implications as you complete the final step in the WebQuest:
a practice essay for the Regents.
