| Chapter 33 Ron sank down in a large armchair in front of the fire with his bags of goodies from Zonkos and Honeydukes in front of him. He looked over towards the couch where Harry usually sat at this time but he was missing. Ron looked around the common room but there was no sign of his best friend any where. He looked for Christina. "She'd know where he is." ,he thought. But she was no where to be found either. Ron decided that while waiting he would start his Transfiguration homework but he soon spotted Hermione sitting in the corner. Ron made his way over towards the table where she was sitting hunched over a long piece of parchment. "Hermione, can we talk?" Ron sat down next to Hermione. She put down her quill and looked up. "Of course Ron, what is it?", she said. Ron noted the tone of fake sympathy in her voice. "Don't play with me Hermione. You said that you weren't angry anymore but it's plain as daylight that you are. What is wrong with you?" "What is wrong with me?! What is wrong with me Ronald, is that you spend all your time thinking about yourself and you never think about anyone else!" She began to pick up her quill again but Ron put his hand over hers. "What are you talking about Hermione?" "I'm talking about you hurting my feelings. You made fun of me and I didn't appreciate it." At first Ron had tried to completely divert the subject about Hermione being in love with him but she looked into his eyes with sadness in them. He knew he had to say something soon. "Hermione, I....I....I didn't mean to make fun of you. I was just angry about you and Viktor. You know that I never wanted anyone to take away my best friend." He tried to give her a hug but Hermione pushed him away. "Is that all I am to you then Ron? You're best friend?" This was the moment of truth. Should he tell her? How would she react? Would she be mad? "No Hermione, the truth is I've been in love with you since our first year but I've been too much of a git to say anything." Hermione's stern face began to melt before Ron's eyes into a beautiful smile. "Oh Ron, you don't know how long I've been waiting for you to say that!" She threw herself onto him and wrapped her arms around his neck into a tight hug. Ron's face began to get very red when he felt the other Gryffindor's watching him and Hermione. When she finally let go he grabbed her by the hand and pulled her towards the portrait hole. Hermione tried to let go. "But our homework!" Ron rolled his eyes and turned around. "You never change Hermione. Don't you want to spend some time alone with me?" He looked at her with the saddest eyes he could muster. She smiled at him and took his hand. To on lookers of the situation it would seem that the two had floated out the door. To Ron and Hermione it seemed like something that had always been meant to be and now it had finally happened. |
