Chapter 32
"Harry, where are we going?", asked Christina.
Harry turned to look at her and he smiled, "You'll see."
They walked down to the lake towards a large oak tree. Harry stopped Christina in front of the tree.
"Wait here.", said Harry
"Ok...."
Harry went behind the tree and pulled out a blanket and a basket. Christina raised her eyebrows.
"Harry, I thought we discussed this?", said Christina, crossing her arms.
Harry smiled up at her while he laid the blanket on the ground, "What? You said we have to stay friends. Is there something wrong with two good friends having a romantic lunch together?"
Christina sighed but then she gave him a smile, "As long as that is all that we are doing and nothing else, agreed?"
Harry nodded, "Of course! Do you think I am one to break promises?"
"I don't know but the way you set this up I'm beginning to think that you are."
Harry rolled his eyes and pulled Christina down by her hands. He opened the basket and sniffed it.
"Those house elves sure know how to make a romantic lunch."
"Harry, no romantic lunch, just a lunch."
"Right, right, no romance, just lunch."
Then,he smirked and picked up Christina's hand and kissed it. Christina ripped her hand away but when Harry looked she was still smiling.
"Harry! No romance!"
"Ok, ok, here, let's eat.", sighed Harry.
He reached into the basket,"Butterbeer, sandwiches, pumpkin pasties, Bertie Bott's jellie beans, and chocolate toffies."
"mmmmmm....tasty.", said Christina reaching for a sandwich.
Harry looked up at Christina while they ate they're lunch in silence. When they had both eaten their fill Christina turned to Harry as they both cleaned up the plates and wrappers.
"Harry, why did you really set this up?"
"What, I can't treat one of my friends to a nice lunch?"
"No, you can't, what is this really about? You're usually sulking around and according to Hermione, you've been like that since my father died."
Harry laid down on the ground, " I was happy when I was with him and when the thing that makes you happy dies it sort of makes you less prone to happy thoughts."
"Well then what made you do this?"
Harry leaned up on one arm to look at Christina, "Because you make me happy too."
Christina shook her head, "Harry....."
Harry put his finger to her lips, "No, Christina, you can't stop what's happening to us. I know you don't want it to but it is. Why can't you enjoy this feeling with me? Don't you want to be happy again?"
Christina tried to speak," I...I..."
Harry began to stroke her cheek, "I always wanted to be like everyone else but when I'm with you I don't feel so alone."
Christina began to cry, " Sometimes it's better to be alone, then nobody can hurt you."
"Christina, you know I would never ever want to hurt you."
"And I don't want to hurt you so we should just stop this before it gets any worse."
"Christina, why don't you trust me?"
"I do, I just don't want anything to happen to us."
Harry looked into her eyes, "Tell me the truth, is it because you think that one day I might die?"
Christina laughed through her tears, "No, no, it's just, my father left my mother and i've seen what it did to her and I never want to be that unhappy."
"Oh Christina....."
Harry wrapped his arms around her and she put her head on his shoulder.
"Christina, I will never leave you because I love you."
Harry didn't really realize what he had said until he said it. When he looked down at Christina she lifted herself away from him.She wiped her eyes with Harry's arms still around her.
"Do you really mean that Harry?"
Harry knew this was the defining moment and if he didn't choose the right words now that would be it. This couldn't turn out like his and Cho's relationship. It had to have more meaning.
"More than anything I know Christina."
Before Harry could say anything else Christina had thrown herself at him and pushed her lips against his.
