On October 22, 2001 Black Fez Studios and Gamer's Edge in Roseburg Oregon hosted the Gate 9 Mega battle, Inspired by the mighty Dreadnought defense of the Armageddon Hive Gate, the Imperial side had to survive a sustained assualt on a random length game!
Boasting a huge 4 by 6 foot bombed out roadway that leads straight to the legendary Gate 9 itself. The Gate measured 5 feet in width and over 2 feet in height.
The Gate 9 board took Black Fez Studios' Andy and Leigh over 40 hours to construct from start to finish, and was constructed from plastic coated foam core (much more durable than its paper coated cousin), gutted model kits, plastic irrigation piping, blister pack shells, computer fan housings, and a tray from some vegetarian sausages for the gate, and a large sheet of insulation grade foam, shaped, smothed, sculpted and sand textured for the flat surface.
Graphics were printed onto clear transfer paper and the whole thing was slathered in matte finish.
