Preliminary Description:

The Cultural Screen is a 60 inches screen that could be accessed by public users by using a mobile phone. The user age ranges between 10 to 60 years old. There is no specific education background that the user must hold. The system is accessible as long as the user can read/write and has basic mobile usability knowledge. The screen shows the appropriate numbers that the user should dial in order to access a specific function. There is also a search engine where the user can search something in the database. The main theme of the screen is Culture. As shown in the previous diagram, there are different categories in the Culture theme such as Night life, Sports, Restaurants, etc. Each category has some subcategories. The system also supports multi-languages. The user can choose the language that he wishes to show the information in. In some categories, like the cinema, the user can search for movie times, listings, etc, then a ticket could be purchased through the system by an SMS message. There is an option where the user can receive a map that shows the direction to a specific location. In this preliminary system, we choose to have a time-out limit for each user access. One user can access the screen at a time. More details will be discussed in coming versions of the system. In addition, some client interviews will made to have more system requirements and restrictions.

User Profiles:

User Profile 1

Peter is a 23 years old student from San Diego, California. He has just arrived to San Sebastian to participate in a biotechnological project at the University of Medicine. Between several choices for coming to Europe, he finally chose that city not only because of the University, but also because of the beach, since he has always lived near it. He loves all kind of sports, specially surfing and football. Next weekend he is planning to go with some new friends to see a football match, Real Sociedad against Real Madrid. And he cannot wait to get the tickets!! He will like to invite his roommates, but he doesn’t feel confident enough in Spanish to buy directly the tickets in the stadium. In the train station he visits everyday to get to University there is a big cultural screen, and he wonders if it could help him some way...

User Profile 2

Marta is teaching art in the Bonn International School since September. She moved to Bonn with her family during the summer because her husband has been hired by the Deutsche Post. She is originally from Berlin, where she became a cultural lover. But since she arrived to Bonn it has been impossible for her to find free time to attend to any museum or cultural event, so she has decided to take her pupils to the Kunstmuseum. In order to get information about the time, price, and discounts for groups or special school days, she would like to go to the Tourist Information Centre, but it is quite far from the School and she cannot waste her time. She is just completely hopeless with technology, so Internet is not a solution. Mobile phones are the only devices she can operate. Would they help her to find information?

User Profile 3

Sebastian and Laura have been living in Wien for the last 20 years. They have three married sons and 5 grandsons, who also live in Wien. Sebastian stopped working when his last son got married and left home. Since that time, the couple has an active cultural life. But they are getting older, and Laura finds it hard to get to the Opera Theatre to buy the tickets. Sebastian doesn’t want her to make such an effort but he doesn’t come with any solution. They are living closed to the Schwedenplatz, a nice neighbourhood near the Centre, in front of a main underground station. Sebastian goes everyday to the station to buy cigarettes and he is pretty curious about a cultural screen which people interact with placed next to the tobacconist’s.
