ReelDrag.net Ice Derby 2004

The 2004 Ice Derby
February 7th & 8th, 2004
"This time somebody in our group is going home a winner!"

Well, another year has come and gone for the annual ice derby, but this year was by all accounts one of the best we've ever had. The new format had everyone more interested in the competition and there was more excitement this year with each fish that was caught. When it came down to the wire, mear ounces meant the difference between a $50.00 second prize and 365 days worth of braggin' rights as King of the Ice! The $100 first place prize was overshadowed by the "Cup" and the honor of being the official "King of the Ice" for 2004. Congratulations Kevin! Click here for our derby results!
Final details of the tournament format have been determined. We paid out two places (1st & 2nd) for the heaviest trout only. There was some discussion on Saturday night about whether or not we should have split fields for lakers and rainbows. As it turned out, no rainbows were caught, though Chris FItts had 2 flags and 3 lost fish in the shallows and Jeff Dolloway also had a shallow water fish attack his bait without swallowing it. No one fished for cusk, so there was no Cusk Pool. Perhaps next year we will see more interest in that area.

Everyone must have a sleeping bag and a pillow case. I won't be cleaning any sheets.

Beds are on a first come first serve basis. There are 3 double beds in the camp and 3 bunk beds. That means there are 12 bed spaces available.

If you arrive early and attempt to claim a double bed for yourself, you are in for a rude awakening and fate will provide you with a loud bed partner for the weekend.
The Derby entry fee has been established at $25.00. Do not come up for the weekend unless you agree to pay the entry fee. Too expensive you say? That's okay, you can stay home and spend that cash on pay per view smut.

This fee does not cover food expenses for the weekend.

We are hoping to collect cash from everyone to pay for breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

If anyone feels like making a huge batch of chilli, stew or soup please let me know. We will be more than happy to reheat it on the ice.

Fishing Methods Permitted: All legal methods of taking fish through the ice on lake winnipesaukee will be allowed. When in doubt, the 2004 Digest will be consulted. In the event of any disagreement the NH Digest will be the basis for any decisions concerning legal fishing methods, size limits, tackle, bait, etc. Hours of competition: The legal angling hours as stated in the Digest will apply beginning Saturday morning and lasting until the tournament is officially over on Sunday. Unless we make a majority decision by 10:00 Sunday morning to change the time at which the tournament ends on Sunday afternoon, the tournament will be officially over at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
Weighing of Fish: Fish must be weighed as soon as possible once the fish is removed from the water. An official scale will be used. This will be the only scale used to weigh fish for this tournament. Using another man's hole: No angler shall move in on another man's hole from where he recently caught a fish while he is away from that hole re-rigging, re-baiting, warming up, etc. within 1 hour without that person's permission.
