In the Chicago suburbs

0915h
Mood: very good
Fact of the day: Word "de" is in the Scrabble dictionary, and virga refers to a type of rain that is so light, it disappears even before it reaches ground.
event of the week: Flying to Kyoto on wednesday.

I'm staying in Corrine's house right now, cos she's nice enough to let me stay over at her place in Chicago, before I leave on Wednesday. I was planning on writing that script for my brother these next few days before I see him next week, but unfortunately, Corrine's been bringing me out, to hang out with her friends and it's just so much more exciting to be with her and her friends than sitting in the guest room writing a play. Heh.

Yesterday, we went to her best friend's place, where we watched It's a Wonderful World, which by the way, is a very sweet and heartwarming old movie. Two other of her friends also came by to hang out...these people are just so funny! Now I know where Corrine's very sarcastic sense of humour came from. Seriously, I couldn't catch up. When's the last time I was just sitting there and hanging out with my friends like that? I wish I was with my friends instead, but oh well, I shall not go into that now. Corrine's friends are very friendly, and they warmed up to me very quickly, very surprisingly, considering I'm usually not one who hits it off with people so quickly.

Corrine's family is really fun too. Last night, before dinner, we were playing Scrabble together. As unbelievable as it is, I actually won! My goodness...I think they were just letting me win because I was the guest. But as the guest, I felt quite embarrassed to win. Oops. Before that, I was helping them decorate the X'mas tree, which was so interesting, cos Corrine's half-Jewish, so there were both traditional Santa-ho-ho-ho type of deco, as well as the more Jewish type of deco. This Thursday is Chanukah, and Corrine's going to tell me about it today. Another thing I didn't expect to gain out of this - learning about some Christmas and some Jewish traditions. I bought some eggnog last night at the store, since I've never had any before and Corrine says that if I can't finish it, she'll help me with it. Heh. She's going to make some Jewish potato pancakes for me to try too.

I'm having a pretty good time here, which makes me really glad. I was worried about leaving my comfort zone in chambana and staying here for these few days, before going into my emotional comfort zone with my family when I go to Japan. I was worried this few transitional days would be tough. But now, I know it's easy. Because of Corrine. I'm so thankful. I think I should give her a treat. I should buy something for her family too. Later....we're going out shopping later.
