This is the grand tvb production of the year starring many of tvb's leading actors and actresses. The story revolves around the relationship of Gallen Lo and his two brothers, one that is biologically related and the other who is not biologically related as Gallen is an adopted child of a rich family in Hong Kong.
Gallen Lo is an adopted child of a rich family in Hong Kong, he is an extremely nice man who would absolutely do anything for his family, which includes giving up the woman he loves (Jessica Hsuan) and giving up his life. In this family he has two younger siblings, Raymond Lam and Myolie Wu.
At the start of the series, he is on a work trip to Perth, Australia, and coincidentally, meets Jessica Hsuan. They fall in love quickly but then Gallen has to go back to Hong Kong to help out his dad. When Jessica is back in Hong Kong, she hears nothign from Gallen and soon loses contact. However, they meet again in court as Jessica is the crown prosecutor trying to prove that Gallen is guilty with many criminal offences. Here, Gallen is helping out his dad as his use to do illegal things in order to get money. Although, his dad is trying to stay away from the "black" side so that he can pass his business to his kids without getting them into trouble, he cannot completely cut all connection with them and constantly gets into trouble by the police. During this case, Jessica thought that Gallen was guilty and that he is in the "black" side, so they cannopt possibly be togther. This time, Gallen is proved innocent and after many attempts, Gallen successfully dates Jessica.
However, Gallen and Jessica's relationship flutuates alot and there are many arguments between them because of their opposing status. Gallen gets taken to court many times, as he tries to help out his family, and Jessica soon loses faith in Gallen, and she suggests to break up with him. After this incident, Gallen promises to leave his family behind and migrate to Australia with Jessica. Jessica is very happy with this but this happinnes didn't last for long, as Gallen told her that he cannot leave his family behind and migrate to Australia with. Jessica becomes heart-broken and they eventually break up.
My review: the cast is very strong and is one of the grand TVB production of the year, starring many famous and popular tvb stars. Though there is a strong cast, the too-serious story line lets it down heaps. It is one of those big production like At the Threshold Of An Era, Cold Blood Warm Heart etc. These type of series normally starts of quite good and interesting and then one of the leading actors turns evil, normally driven by greed over money, and causes chaos and then it is all resolved again at the end. It is a good series to watch only because you can see alot of the famous stars at once.
Deric Wan is Gallen's long lost biological brother, they were separated when they were young in an accident. Deric thought that Gallen had died in the accident and so did Gallen, but it wasn't until when Gallen found out that Deric is actually his brother who lives with their uncle. Deric is a policeman who was the one that put Gallen to court many times, Deric always believed that this person (whom he doesn't know is his brother) is guilty of many actions and that he comes from a "black" family, so his aim as a policeman is to get Gallen into jail. Deric has a funnt personality and is sometimes very single-minded, especially towards Gallen. After his first contact with Gallen, he always thought Gallen was guilty of his actions and never hears the other side of the story.
Deric admires Jessica Hsuan for her professionalism towards her work and after many times of working together, he eventually falls in love with her. But he gets rejected many times by her becasue in Jessica's heart, there is only room for Gallen.
Michelle Yip is a cute, adorable, cheerful young policewomen who works with Deric. Michelle is Jessica's younger sister and they have a pretty close relationship. At first, Michelle does not like Deric because she thinks that he is not serious with his work and she thinks that Deric is bias against her in terms of work. But time proves itself and slowly after working together many times, Michelle discovers Deric's good points and gradually falls in love with him. But her love is hidden as she realises that he has no feelings for her and instead is trying to go after her sister, Jessica.
Tavia Yeung is Deric's cousin and he treats her like his sister as Deric has no siblings of his own (as he thought Gallen died many years ago). Tavia works as a dolphin trainer in Ocean Park and becomes colleagues with Raymond, when he used to work there. Tavia began to develop good feelings for Raymond but her love is unrequitted as Raymond doesn't like her, though he never rejected her. As Raymond turns evil, under the manipulation of his greed-driven uncle, he dates Tavia and pretends to like her just to piss Deric off. All the way, he uses Tavia for his own benefits and she does not know this till towards the end as she overheard when Deric asked Raymond if he ever liked Tavia, and her said no. At this point, they broke up and Tavia fell pregnant. At the end, Raymond regrets what he has done as he finds out the truth about Gallen and then he gets sent to jail but at this stage he finds out that he'll soon become a father and i believe at this point he truly loves Tavia.
