There's a lot of suspense but the story flows very well and the mysteries slowly begin unfurls themselves. But with all the insane twists I couldn't help but feel the series was a little too long. I just wanted the main characters to stop declaring their love for each other. This "minus wave" is a possible result of someone trying the evil Great Demon Ox, a demon that depised humans and killed humans at his own pleasures. Therefore Genjo Sanzo, a high ranked monk, along with his companions, Son Goku, Cho Hakkai, and Sha Gojyo, must go to the west and stop the revival of the Great Demon Ox and stop the spreading of the "minus wave". Comments: Reviewed By: MaRy Volumes Read: 8 Story and Plotline: 5/5 :Minekura has recreated the original story of Saiyuki and added a few twists of her own. If you've read or seen the original Saiyuki, this would be nothing like it. The character personalities would be inverted from what they originally were. The story moves nicely while doing some flashbacks along the way. Unlike the anime, the manga has less "unless filler chapters". The only disappointment I had was they that didn't reach their goal at the end of the 9 volumes. This manga is a definite appealed toward the female population but maybe some males will enjoy it as well. Art: 5/5 :I really admire Minekura's style, in fact, she is one of my favorite mangaka. Facial shape and eyes are drawn uniquely. The art is drawn beautifully and contrasting is done very well. The manga often varies from very serious to chibi style, so it has a bit of everything. The art does include a bit of nudity and some gore... apparently the demons don't evaporate like in the anime.
