Comments: Reviewed By: MaRy Volumes Read: 11 Story and Plotline: 4/5 :A very comical and sweet shojou series. But brotherxsister relationship is pretty typical. (Sort of reminds me of Marmalade Boy) But it's nothing like it and sparks originality of its own. Story moves nicely and stops for nothing and ends perfectly with everybody happy. Art: 4/5 :There were many variations in character design unlike other series. Half of the characters were somewhat "normal" or plain and the other half was kind of "punkish". A lot of the filler art has a gothic kind of feel to it. Comments: Reviewed By: MaRy Volumes Read: 3 Story and Plotline: 4/5 :I felt that the story was very typical, in relation to almost any mythological tale. But it is an interesting story. The plot moves well and includes many flashbacks to help develop the current story. Art: 5/5 :The art was absolutely stunning and probably the best aspect of the series. Kouyu Shurei takes on a gothic style of drawing. There is a lot of detail in the facial features and costume design. You are definitely able to feel the light and darkness contrast in her drawings. Comments: Reviewed By: MaRy Story and Plotline: 3/5 :The story moves very slow and just proceeds into the depths of nowhere. But the story is somewhat of comical. Art: 4/5 :The art can be counted as cute and does border the lines of chibi style. But I don't find anything special about the art and is basically typical. The Program forces randomly chosen 9th Grade classes to participate in a literal fight to the death on a deserted island. Escape is not an option, because the students are equipped with bomb collars that could be detonated remotely. Other rules include danger zones, which are places that if anyone is in 5 minutes after the announcement, the bomb collars will be detonated, and if no one gets killed in a 24 hour period, ALL the bomb collars get detonated. This time's particular class to participate is of 9th Grader Shuyya Nanahara. He believes that he can beat the system and find a way to escape the game through teamwork. But not everyone agrees. How will Shuyya escape the game? Comments: Reviewed by Kurama Schezar Volumes Read: 2 Story and Plotline: 4/5 :This story is very disturbing to me. Despite this, it is told very well. It's quite hard to notice the other emotions in the manga with all the gore and death that take place. Art: 4/5 :There is LOTS of detail....I truly mean this when I say it. This detail is to the point where u start questioning whether or not the artists actually did some things to other people to see how it would look.....it is quite stomach turning. However, given the circumstances that this manga has, this is a GOOD thing. Extra: This manga truly earns it's Mature rating. It's story alone is enough to garner that rating, however it takes the extra step and has great detail in its drawings. There are a lot of underlying themes as well, such as friendship, trust, and lost innocence, but these themes are hard to notice under all of the gore, violence, and betrayal that takes place in the story. Despite how disturbing this manga is to me, I just can't put it down. Hope that doesn't mean anything ;-)...... OVERALL, NOT for the faint of heart or those who hate gore. It's a minimum to be a gore freak to stand this manga. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! The manga follows Chinmi and his adventure in becoming the world's best billards player. Comments: Reviewed By: MaRy Volumes Read: 8 Story and Plotline: 4/5 :I typical don't mind these type of sport genres such as Hikaru no Go and Initial D. Break Shot is just one of those manga where the main character goes off and pursues his dream to become the world's greatest watever sport he's interested in. Though the general storyline is typical, the story is still very interesting. The new techniques that you can maybe apply and learning to actually understand a sport is actually kind of fun. You really get the feel of what billards is a sport than just a leisurely played game. Art: 4/5 :This manga is fairly old (1987) therefore designs are not as "trendy". Art is not as detailed meaning that the artist doesn't shadow much and there is not really a lot of detail on the characters themselves. But the artist doesn't fail to add action lines when needed and characters are drawn pretty cleanly. Extra: Liking this type of manga all depends on the type of person reading.
