Now, let's take a closer look at the different Warhammer armies. You can click on each of the links below, and it will take you to their respective homepages on the Games Workshop website. In alphabetical order:

-Beasts of Chaos
The Beasts of Chaos, formerly known as Beastmen, are a savage race of half men, half beastly forms. They worship Chaos (see Hordes of Chaos), and have a wide variety of units and monsters that can be deployed.

-Bretonnia
Bretonnia is an all-human army that consists of mighty knights and peasants. There are different units of knights to deploy, along with units of peasant infrantry. The Bretonnians are themed after medieval France and England

-Dark Elves
The Dark Elves, or Druchii are one of the three Elven armies, the evil opposites of the High Elves. They raid anything they can. Their army has various infantry units, cavalry and chariots, and even some monsters that can be herded into battle.

-Dogs of War

The Dogs of War can be fielded as a separate army, but they also can be bought in other armies, to compensate for that armies weaknesses. They have a wide variety of troops and races.

-Dwarfs
The Dwarfs live in the mountains, and are renowned stone- and metalworkers. They have no cavalry or monsters, but they can field quite a few different war machines.

-Empire

The Empire is the other good human army, and the army from which point of view the Rulebook has been written. They have a little bit of everything, infantry, cavalry, war machines. They are themed after the Holy Roman Empire

-High Elves

The High Elves are the noble Elven race as it is known from many Fantasy books. They can field good but expensive infantry, cavalry, chariots and war machines.

-Hordes of Chaos
The worshippers of Chaos, an army that consists of evil men and daemons. This army can be mixed with the Beasts of Chaos.

-Lizardmen
The Lizardmen are a race of humanoid lizards. They come in various sizes and have an Aztec theme about them.

-Ogre Kingdoms
This is a race of ogres, helped by goblinoids. Not inherently evil, but they are quite violent and vicious. Ogres are expensive, but they are very strong. They are themed after the mongol hordes.

-Orcs and Goblins

This is possibly the most varied army in the game, apart from Chaos. There are many different units, and they cover about every aspect in the rulebook. The Greenskins, as they are also called, are a very liable army, but they can be a strong force as well.

-Skaven
The Skaven are Rat-men. They care little about their or other's lives, and can field various quite deadly war machines, possibly more deadly to themselves as to others.

-Tomb Kings

This is an army of undead, based on ancient Egypt. They have various infantry, cavalry and chariot troops, and also a wide variety of undead monsters at their disposal.

-Vampire Counts

The Vampire Counts are an army lead by powerful vampires and necromancers, and consists of skeletons, ghouls and zombies as their main troops.

-Wood Elves
These are the guardians of the forest, an Elven race that can field powerful forest-spirits. They seldom leave their forest homes.
